243 Days Until the Disney Princess Half Marathon
Today is June 27, 2017 and there are 243 Days until the Disney Princess Half Marathon. I am excited, I am nervous, and most of all I can't wait to be a Princess. I want to document my journey to the finish line. I think it will help me to stay accountable and I think it would be a great thing to be able to look back on.
I attempted to "run" the Princess Half in 2016. I did so with virtually NO training and because of the time requirements (a 16 minute mile) I was swept at mile marker 7. Don't get me wrong, I am PROUD I was able to make it that far, but this time I am going to train, I'm going to run, and I'm going to finish.
I have a training plan I'm following from now until the Princess on February 25, 2018. It's a mish-mash of a couple of plans written by Katie at runsforcookies.com, who's blog I have followed for years.
Now, currently, starting out I am slow. And you know some people say they are slow and they are running like 13 minute miles..... I can run for a total of 30 seconds (though today I made it a whole MINUTE -- more on that in a bit) at like 15 min miles and I feel like I am dead. My average mile pace is around 19 - 20 minutes, and most of that is done walking. I have to cut at least 4 - 5 minutes off of each mile in the next 8 months. I know that once I'm running more of the time I'm out there I'll be able to do it but I've also made myself a very practical pace plan that I feel like I should be able to get to in that time.
I have exactly 151 runs left until I'm at the starting line at Disney World. I plan to make the most of every one of them.
So lets recap today's run -- even though it started out on the wrong foot. I woke up at 5:30 a.m. -- gross. I got dressed and was out the door at around 5:50 a.m. and I started off walking. I have just started Katie's Walk to Run plan where you walk for 5 mins to start, run x number of mins/seconds and then walk to finish the 30 minutes. I'm currently on day three, so today's run portion was one minute. I did the math (even though I hate math) and my pace during the running portion was 14:12 min mile. I felt like I was going to die for the next 5 minutes of the walk. Clearly that pace is much too fast for me. So I continued walking around a 20 minute mile pace until I had gone about 0.75 miles, and then I fell, hard, thanks to a sidewalk that had pushed itself out of the ground. I scraped up my hand, my knee, my arm, and hurt my back. I called the hubs to possibly come pick me up (mind you, he's not even up for work yet), but he didn't answer (because he's still sleeping). He called me back but at this point I was just like, ehh, forget it, I'll walk home. The fall only ended up cutting me short by about 4 minutes. I walked up our front steps just a few seconds after the 26 minute mark.
Today's Stats:
Time: 26:14
Distance: 1.29 Miles
Average Pace: 20:20
Thursday I run 1 minute and 30 seconds -- pretty sure I'm going to do this one at the gym where I'm on the treadmill and there are no funny sidewalks. Guess that's it for my first post. Hoping to make 151 more of these before February!!
