187 Days Until the Disney Princess Half Marathon

I know that I haven't updated my blog in a while, but FOR ONCE that doesn't mean I have neglected my training. I have been working very hard and I can now say I have ran 6 minutes without stopping to walk. Now, I know that I have said in the past that I am very slow, but now I am running slower than even I could walk . But I will say that running takes a fair toll on me and to even do it at a slow(er than slow) rate is hard on my asthma and just my body in general.

I was initially training for a 15 minute mile, but once I ran 5 minutes at the "long/easy run pace" at that speed (a 3.7 on the treadmill -- a pace of about 16:12) I knew it was too hard for me to sustain for a long time at my current fitness level, at least for where I am at right now. I have to focus on getting to 30 minutes of running without stopping. In order to do that I NEED to be slow. I slowed down to running at a 3.4 on the treadmill -- a pace of 17:38.

Now, even in the spring, when I was running intervals at a MUCH faster pace of about 14:30 (and walking at about a 19/20 min mile), I was only getting to 18 minute miles and my 5k average pace was 18:57 minute miles. And this was VERY HARD for me.

I am not saying all of this to minimize my accomplishments because running at a 3.4 pace for 6 minutes to me is the equivalent of someone else who is in great shape running a marathon. I pushed myself those 6 minutes. I worked hard to get to where I am at and I am proud of what I've done. I am just saying all of that to say, that I am okay with being slow. I've put in the training paces for my necessary finish time and as long as I stick to these times I should finish right at 3:30:00. And over the next six months, if I get faster then great! If I don't, then that's okay too. My MAIN goal is just to cross the finish line.

Here are the paces I need to be at for the 16 minute mile half marathon:

Easy/Long Run Pace: 17:31
Tempo Pace: 14:58
Hard Pace: 13:39
Sprint Pace: 12:44

Today on the schedule we have a 7 minute run. I'm feeling pretty confident hopeful about it. Fingers crossed. Check in again soon!
